The parish church of St. Mary dates from the 13th century and was enlarged in the 15th century by the addition of aisles and enlargement of transepts. It was further restored around 1860. Externally it is roughcast stone with slate roofs, and internally the walls are entirely plastered with unique incised and painted decoration. This has been affected by previous high level roof leaks and more so from rising damp retained by hard cementitious external pointing which is causing significant salt damage internally.
